Chapter Twelve

I want you too.

Until the words had left her lips, she hadn’t been sure she could say them.

They were, of course, the truth. She knew it. Griff did too.

He knew. It was confronting to just … accept it. To not question it. To believe he saw her, knew her, based entirely on nothing but herself. As she’d been today and tonight – with all its intensity, and fear, and tension and … heat.

Oh, the heat between them.

It was undeniable. It was constant. It just was.

And so, she reached for him. She placed her hand on his chest, exactly where she’d rubbed off her lipstick only – unbelievably – hours ago. Then, he’d been a stranger, but now, she knew him. Not everything, but enough. Enough to like him. To want to know more.

To trust him.

His heart beat fast and steady beneath her touch. His chest was hard, unyielding. Hot.

She slid her hand to the side, so her fingers shifted beneath where he’d undone a few buttons, to touch his skin. He didn’t move, but there was the slightest catch to his breathing, and she liked that. She liked how such a simple touch could affect a man so physically strong. That her touch could do that.

She lifted her other hand and undid a button.

Then another and another until she needed to tug his shirt out of his trousers to reach the rest.

Although doing so, her hand brushed against his gun, and that made her pause. It reminded her where they were and what was happening. She looked up to find Griff looking at her.

“No,” he said, answering her unspoken question. “This probably isn’t a good idea.”

He was being honest again.

“I’ve been keeping my eye on the camera vision, but I won’t be in a minute. I’m not really now.”

She undid the final few buttons on his shirt, then slid her hands upwards, over the indentations of his abdominal muscles, then up and over the solid shape of his pectorals before pushing the shirt off his broad shoulders.

His skin was perfect and golden, smattered with pale freckles over his shoulders, and hot and firm beneath her touch. His body was lean, strong, powerful – and restrained. Waiting.

“Then,” she said, “we’d better hurry up.”
